Fr. McGivney inspires Outreach Programs in Bohol

Brothers from Knights of Columbus Immaculate Concepcion Council 14782 in Taglibalaran, Bohol carry out their monthly feeding program for the 142 students of Montaña Primary School (MPS), Baclayon, Bohol.
TAGBILARAN, BOHOL—Father Michael J. McGivney continues to motivate the members of a fraternal organization he organized more than a hundred years ago to do charitable work to people in need.
In the Diocese of Tagbilaran in Bohol, one of the local councils of the Knights of Columbus sustains a monthly feeding program for primary schools in remote and poor areas.
“Father McGivney founded Knights of Columbus to protect the Catholic fathers and families, so we as members were inspired by his life,” Ien Dalumbar, Grand Knight of Immaculate Concepcion Council 14782 said.
Dalumbar said that the “feeding program is in line with the goals and vision of Father Michael McGivney to safeguard the basic unit of society,” adding that the initiative is “one of their advocacies”.
Sustaining the Program
One of the schools that benefit from the feeding program is Montaña Primary School (MPS) in Baclayon, Bohol.
Dalumbar explained that the “K of C started reaching out to MPS as early as 2012, and it is done every last Friday of the month.”
“We specifically choose schools located in remote areas. We do have feeding in central schools too but for malnourished children,” Dalumbar added.
Outpouring her gratitude, Teresita Agbon, the School Trustee of MPS said “we are very grateful, the KofC is the only group that is able to sustain the outreach program, they visit us here monthly.”
“This is good for the students because some of the kids here are poor and some families have financial struggles, it is relief from the challenging life situation,” she added.
During one of the actual immersion and feeding at MPS, the cause of Fr. McGivney was introduced and promoted to over a hundred students. (Christine Paguirigan)
