Miracle in the Making

Since formally opening the Father Michael McGivney Office in Manila one year ago, we have seen a rise in devotion to the founder of the Knights of Columbus, as people throughout the Philippines have come to know Father McGivney and seek his intercession.

The highlight of the past year was the visit of Supreme Knight Carl Anderson to the new Father McGivney Audiovisual Studio, located in the CBCP compound, which was constructed with a grant from the Supreme Council. Mr. Anderson also initiated the Pilgrim Statue Program in which a 4-foot replica of Father McGivney is brought to
parishes and K of C halls throughout Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

In addition, the 290,000 Knights in the Philippines are promoting the Cause of Father McGivney every day through their prayers, works and witness in their councils and communities. As the illustration on this page shows, the first principle of our Order – charity – is more than simply giving material things to the needy. True charity involves an exchange between persons as the love of Christ is shared with the giver and the receiver. This is the charity the Knights seek to share – a Charity that Evangelizes.

We also have some very exciting news that was announced by Supreme Knight Anderson last August at the Supreme Convention in Anaheim, Calif. The postulator for the Cause, Dr. Andrea Ambrosi of Rome, is now investigating a possible miracle through the intercession of Father McGivney that may lead to our founder’s beatification. You may recall that earlier we reported on Dr. Ambrosi’s visit to Manila in January 2012 when Father McGivney’s Cause was launched in the Philippines. More details on this possible miracle will be given as the process continues, but everyone is asked to pray that it will go forward when the investigation reaches the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
Whatever happens, of course, the Cause of Father McGivney will go on since another miracle will be needed for his canonization to sainthood.

I am often asked which problems in life Father McGivney “specializes” in. I always answer that you should invoke Father McGivney’s intercession in all the circumstances of life. He was a parish priest at a time when his people were a despised Catholic minority, and they died at a young age due to hard labor and dangerous work conditions. Thus, Father McGivney understands problems of all kind. Yet he does have a special interest in family life and youth. He knvew that
young people were the future and that strong families were the key to their upbringing in the faith. With our culture and popular media so much set against family values and youthful virtues such as purity and modesty, there has never been a better time to pray to the Apostle to the Young and the Protector of Christian Family Life.

Venerable Father McGivney, intercede for us!
