Prayer for the Canonization of Fr. McGivney to be recited as the opening prayer in all council meetings and activities in Luzon State

Luzon State Advocate Justice Jose C. Reyes, Jr. announces the adopted resolutions in the Knights of Columbus 13th Luzon State Convention at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel last May 10, 2014.

The Knights of Columbus Luzon State approved a resolution directing all Councils in the state to recite the Prayer for the Canonization of Fr. Michael McGivney as the opening prayer in all their meetings and activities.

Resolution No. 14, sponsored by Council No. 5922, was adopted at the K of C’s 13th Luzon State Convention held at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel last May 10, 2014.

Fr. McGivney is the founder of the Knights of Columbus. Last March 2008, Pope Benedict XVI approved a decree recognizing the heroic virtue of Fr. McGivney, declaring him “Venerable” and thereby furthering the process closer to the honors of the altar.

Now that Fr. McGivney is a “Venerable,” a miracle attributed to him is needed in order for him to be declared “Blessed,” the second step to Canonization. This is why the Knights of Columbus continues to encourage people to ask for Fr. McGivney’s intercession.

The recitation of the Prayer for the Cause of Fr. George Willmann, SJ, the acknowledged founder of the K of C in the Philippines, as the closing prayer in all council meetings and activities is also included in the resolution.
