Another statue of Fr. McGivney unveiled

The second statue of Venerable Fr. Michael McGivney in a Church compound in Luzon Jurisdiction was unveiled and blessed last September 8, 2013 at Sta. Rita de Cascia Parish in Philam Homes, Quezon City.

The construction of the statue was initiated and sponsored by District Deputy James Layaoen and Council 4610. Layaoen thought it best to construct in their parish a life-size a statue of Fr. McGivney, the founder of the largest catholic organization of men in the world.

A fourth degree Knight and Parish Priest Msgr. Domingo Erfe introduced Fr. McGivney during his homily where he stressed his legacy and journey towards sainthood. The unveiling of the statue was done right after the homily.

In attendance at the unveiling ceremony was Luzon Deputy Arsenio Isidro Yap, who encouraged all the councils to have a statue built in their councils or within a Church compound, if possible.

At present, there are three Fr. McGivney statues in the Philippines that are erected within the premises of the Parish Church. The first one was established last June 2012 at Sta. Teresita Parish Church in Sta. Mesa Heights, Quezon City in Luzon. The Second was unveiled on April 14, 2013 at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Jaro, Iloilo City in the Visayas. This third one is prominently positioned at the church’s garden together with the Filipino saints, Lorenzo Ruiz and Pedro Calungsod. (Ronalyn Regino)
