Hamden Campus of Father McGivney Cancer Center Dedicated

Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson and a delegation of Knights of Columbus officers and directors joined in dedicating the new Hamden Campus of the Father Michael J. McGivney Cancer Center.

The Whitney Avenue facility is affiliated with the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, and is named for the parish priest who founded the Knights ofColumbus in New Haven at St. Mary’s Church in 1882.

The Catholic fraternal order has been a major contributor to St.Raphael’s down through the years, including building fund campaigns in 1972 and 1982, and $3 million to the building fund campaign in 1992 for the original cancer center’s construction.

The Knights of Columbus has provided $3 million for the Hospital’s “Second Century of Caring Campaign,” which includes funding for the new Hamden Campus.

The new state-of-the-art center will offer a variety of cancer treatments and related educational and support services for patients and their families.

A plaque at the new Hamden center reads:

“The Father Michael J. McGivney Cancer Center-Hamden Campus is named in honor of the founder of the Knights of Columbus, whose commitment to charity and to caring for the needy is an enduring inspiration to the Hospital of St. Raphael.”
