MORE than a hundred years ago, a priest who would translate faith into action was born. The Knights of Columbus founder Father Michael McGivney was born on August 12, 1852 to Irish immigrants Patrick and Mary McGivney in Waterbury, Connecticut in a community that was dominantly Protestant and anti-Catholic. The eldest child, Michael experienced pain and hardship at a young age after six of his 12 siblings died in infancy and he was forced to work at a brass factory to help with his family’s finances. The Cause for Sainthood of Venerable Fr. Michael McGivney was promoted in one of the workshops of the Couples for Christ-Singles for Christ International Congress last February 18, 2017 in Iloilo City. The workshop, dubbed as “Online Missionaries,” was attended by hundreds of CFC-SFC iCon local and international delegates. In his annual report delivered at the 134th Supreme Convention in Toronto, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson noted the Order’s record levels of charity, with over $175 million in donations and over 73.5 million hours of volunteer service.
